Heat-sealing the teabag

  1. Open up the top side of the teabag that appears unsealed (3 sides are sealed). To do this, hold both sides with both hands and slightly push in until you see the bag open.
  2. Insert the loose tea / herbs into the bag with a teaspoon or scoop.
  3. Ensure that you do not overfill the bag and leave at least 15mm space at the top.
  4. Make sure that no herbs are caught between the heat-sensitive seams.
  5. Apply heat to the teabag with an appropriate heating device.

IMPORTANT: If the heat applied to the teabag is not hot enough the bag will not seal properly or will unseal during the steeping process.

IRON

Turn iron onto cotton or hottest setting. On a counter top or other flat surface, place a clean cloth / towel that is suitable to iron on, and then place the teabag on the cloth. Press iron down with slight pressure on the open edge for approximately 5 – 10 seconds. Make sure the open end is sealed with an edge of approximately 0,5mm in width.

FLAT IRON

The flat iron must be on a hot setting. Place the bag between the heated flat iron and hold in place 5 – 10 seconds (depending on the temperature). You might need to seal it again if your flat iron isn’t hot enough. Make sure the open end is sealed with an edge of approximately 0,5mm in width.

  1. Set the sealed teabag aside and allow cooling to take place.
  2. Take sealed teabags and place in air-tight container for later use.
